This is a short trip or idle weekend trip to Munnar hill station from Kochi. Munnar is the best hill station in Kerala due to greenary and climate apart from valleys, mountains, beautiful water reservoirs, wild life, tea plantations. Combination of all these makes Munnar a best destination for holiday seekers. Though 3 or 4 nights are idle to explore Munnar, this is a short weekend tour for those who want to rejuvenate or mingle with nature.
Day 1 : Cochin – Munnar Sightseeing
Upon arrival, our driver will meet, greet and transfer to Munnar. It may take upto 3 – 4hrs to reach Munnar. Below are the sightseeing options available on the way to Munnar.
Cheeyappara Waterfalls. This is located on the Kochi – Munnar highway. Thisis a good place to have photos, but no bathing is allowed as rocks used to slippery. There is no entry fee or parking fee needs to be given. There are couples of small shops selling local food items. 15-20mins halt is recommended.
Valera Waterfalls. After Cheeyappara you can see another water fall on the right side. You cannot see this nearby.
Note : These waterfalls are not available from Feb to May due to summer season.
Plantation Tour. A plantation tour is to familiarize with different ayurvedic herbs, cardamom, cinnamon, tea and coffee plantations. You need to pay an entry fee of minimum Rs 150 per person. These are owned and operated by private parties where they explain about each herb and its importance how this is being used as medicine. After the plantation tour, they used to take the tourist to their shope where different ayurvedic medicines are displayed.
Elephant Safari. Those who like to see or like to have a ride on an elephant, you can visit a centre located on the way to Munnar. It may take upto 1hr for this activity. Minimum price is Rs 800 per person.
Evening Options. Kathakali and Kalaripayattu. Kathakali is a famous art form and Kalaripayattu is a martial art of Kerala. Both are famous and if you like art and culture, you should not miss this. There are two performance centers in Munnar. Punarjani which is located little bit outside is the best one. Both these performance is of an hour each which start at 1700hrs and ending at 1900hrs. Entry fee is Rs 300 per person for each show

Day 2 : Munnar
Munnar full day sightseeing. This devided in to two parts like before and after lunch. Today trip start at 0800hrs.
1. Eravikulam National Park.Eravikulam national park having an area of 97 sq km is the first national park in Kerala. Below are the highlights of Eravikulam.
The Park protects endemic and endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a rare species of mountain goat, and its habitat. The park has the largest stretch of undisturbed shoal-grassland ecosystems in the western ghats.
Anamudi which is 2695 meters in height is the highest peak south of Himalayas is located within this park.
Before becoming a National Park, the area is the hunting reserve of the colonial tea planters.
It takes approximately 30 mins drive fro Munnar to the entry point.
On reaching the entry point, you need to show the online booking details or you can buy the tickets from the counter itself.
From the ticket counter till the park entry gate is 20 mins travel by minibus which is being provided by the park authorities.
On reaching the entry points, you need to walk steep pathways for almost 40 mins to see the Nilgiri Thar and Anamudi Peak.
Those who do not want to hike, buggy cars are available for rent.
Best place for memorable photos of mountains and valleys.
Travel Tips to Visit Eravikulam National Park.
Book your tickets online.
Entry ticket is Rs 125 for domestic tourists and Rs 600 for foreigners.
Best time to visit in the early morning from 8am to 12pm. Afternoon entry start at 2pm till 4pm.
No food or water bottles allowed.
The washroom is available for both gents and ladies.
Not accessible by wheelchair. But buggy cars are available to roam around in the park for all.
Cafeteria and snack bar available at the waiting place.
To see the Nilgiri Thar and Anamudi peak, you need to hike approximately 40 mins. Those who have breathing problems should avoid this.
Bugy car available for disabled or aged persons with additional cost.
Carry raincoat in rainy seasons. Umbrella is a must for all seasons.
This park is closed during Feb and Mar for breeding and calving every year.
2, Tea Musieum. Tea Museum vs Tea Factory visit. Tata Tea museum is one of the attraction to find how tea is being processed from raw tea leaves. But couple of yrs ago, two tea factories – one in Mattupetty dam area and another one in Lockhart were open to guest to see how the tea is being processed. Comparing to tea museum, the tea factory visit gives you an advantage as you can also buy processed tea from the factory. Moreover, all these tea factories provide guide along with the guest to explain the process.
Lunch at Munnar city. After lunch we will be covering the below sightseeing options.
3. Mattupetty Dam– Mattupetty dam and its park gives you some time to relax. If you are interested, here speed boat trip with full security is available. There is a small play ground for children is also available. 4. Echo Point – This is a place near Mattupetty dam. Noce photo stop. 5. Kundala Lake – Nice lake near to Mattupetty. 6. Flower Garden or Rose Garden – Nice place to visit, lots of variety of flowers.
Shopping in Munnar – Best place to buy Coffee / Tea, Ayurvedic products and all type of species.

Day 3 : Munnar – Kochi
Today is the last day of your trip. Below is the other attractions in Munnar which is not included in this trip. You can customise or choose to include, in case you would like to do so.

At a convenient time, check out from hotel and proceed to Kochi. Drop at Kochi airport /rly station / bus stand. Tour ends.
Important Travel Tips to Visit Munnar. On the way from Kochi to Munnar, we have included Valera and Cheeyappara waterfalls. Since these falls depend on rain water, these falls may be dry during summertime or if there is no rain.
We recommend you to visit the art center on Day 1 as you may not get time for the second day.
During the tourist season, weekend and holidays, there will be a huge rush due to local guests. Sometimes this leads to a terrific traffic block and may trap for a couple of hrs. Therefore, ensure that you keep the timing mentioned in this program.
The above program is not possible in case your hotel is too far off of Munnar like Adimali, Chinnakanal, Eeticity, Anachal, Kunjithanni. SreesTours select and provide hotels which are located within Munnar only.
If your trip is during Feb or Mar when the Eravikulam park is closed, you can visit either Top station or Lockhart gap viewpoint, etc.
All these programs may disrupt in case there is heavy rain. Visiting Top station or Eravikulam, during heavy monsoon is not possible.
