Can Individual Participate in the Boat Race?

Each boat is belonged to a Club which gives training for a minimum of 2 weeks before the final boat race event. Individual can also participate in the event if some club give the opportunity for participation and training. But if there is a group of individuals want to participate, they need to hire a boat and with the help of local people, they can participate in the event.

In 2011, one of such group from Europe had participated in this Nehru trophy boat race. One thing I would like to say is if you are on your south India tour in August then you must attend this snake boat race.

How to Participate for the Boat Race?

The Nehru Trophy Boat Race in Alappuzha is one of the most exciting water events in India. To join this famous race, teams must register through the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society. Each snake boat, called chundan vallam, carries over 100 trained rowers who practice hard for months.

Local clubs or groups usually support these teams, and only experienced rowers are selected. The race is full of energy, with powerful rowing and traditional vanchipattu (boat songs) adding to the thrill. It’s a proud moment for both the rowers and the cheering crowd.
