This road is under renovation mode from Munnar town to Pooppara. The work started from Aug 2017 and expected by end of 2018. Munnar town – Anachal – Kunjithanni – Rajakkad – Rajakumari – Pooppara – Chinnakanal and this is in total 56kms of drive taking around two and a half hours to complete.

Main Problems with Tourists

As a result of this road widening, tourists to and from on Munnar and Chinnakanal routes are facing many problems.

The main struggle by the travellers is going to places of interest in Munnar. To enjoy sightseeing in Munnar, one needs to come to Munnar town first to go to Rajamalai national park or Mattupetty Dam and Top station. The distance between Chinnakanal to Munnar town is just 22 kms taking around 30 – 40 minutes.  As the road is blocked from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, reaching Munnar town from Chinnakanal by another route takes around 1.5 hours of drive extra.

Tourist travelling to Chinnakanal from Kochi

If you are travelling from Kochi and booked your hotel at Chinnakanal, you should avoid Munnar to reach your place. As explained above, due to road widening Munnar – Chinnakanal road is blocked and hence, you will have to follow alternate route Adimali – Anachal – Rajakkad – Rajakumari – Pooppara – Chinnakanal.
